Bearing housings are the casings that house the internal components. Often overlooked by many, the machining of the bearing housing will play a big part in the reliability of the finished turbo. Good quality materials, together with precision machining, are required to ensure journal clearances are correct, and the rear seal seat is in tolerance to ensure a perfect seal. Worn bearing housings are the cause of oil leaks from both the inlet side and exhaust side of the turbo.
